SOLID OAK PARQUET

3 fixed widths of 8.5 cm, 11.5 cm and 13.5 cm

lengths vary from 50cm to 140cm (80%> = 70cm)

Grade is ‘natural knotty’ (knots max 2.5 cm diameter)

Grooved on the back (less chance of warping)

 

Installation Recommendations

We do not recommend laying glued flooring exceeding 15mm thick, 14cm wide and 2m long.

1 The room

Before planning to install a parquet floor or a boarded floor, general structural work must be completed.
The building must be weather tight (windows installed) and dry (avoid further operations causing humidity in the building).
The flooring boards should be stored in the room where they will be fixed.
Moreover, to maintain a moisture content of wood between 9% and 11% the humidity of the air should not exceed 60%.
The heating should be on 3 weeks before laying the floor, with a temperature of about 15 °.

2 The support

Everything must be done to stop rising damp under the floor( moisture coming up from the ground under the support).

  • On a timber boarded support, the humidity of the wood should not exceed 12%.

  • On a cement screed or concrete base, the moisture should not exceed 3% of the dry mass.

  • For anhydrous screeds, the humidity should not exceed 0.5%.

  • A levelling screed should be allowed to dry for a week for every half inch thick thickness in dry periods (three weeks in the damp period).

The surface must be flat and horizontal: a maximum deviation of 5mm under a rule of 2m and 1 mm under a rule of 20cm.

  • It must be free of all traces of paint, plaster, grease and dust.

  • Make sure that the surface all over will absorb the glue,  and that there are no areas which will resist adhesion.

  • Ensure that the entire surface is hard, rigid, and uniform in its cohesion.

3 Fixing

The boards should be oriented in the direction of light, or alternatively, in the direction of the greater length of the room.

For glued parquet there are two bonding techniques:

  • Glue applied evenly all over the support (or over an insulating underlay of cork) using a toothed spatula provided using special single composition polyurethane glue.

  • Single composition polyurethane glue in parallel strips arranged perpendicular to the length of the boards, with or without sub-layer sound insulation.

A gap must be left around the floor equal to 0.15% of the width of the sum of the board widths and at least 8 mm. This gap  will be hidden by skirtings which are laid after the floors. They should be thick enough to fully cover the gap and should not prevent the expansion of the parquet due to humidity.

4 Finishing

Three weeks after laying, the boards are sanded in the direction of the grain in several passes of decreasing grit (grain ending with 120). Before application of finish (oil or sealer), it is necessary to dust off the floor.
To minimize the dimensional changes of your floor, we recommend you maintain a humidity of ambient air between 45 and 65%.
